| Airbrush expert Marc Rogowsky uses R-M’s CARIZZMA premium paint system | | 12/16/2008 |
Art on wheels
Dortmund. A car like no other – unique, trendy, with that “je ne sais
pas quoi.” Marc Rogowsky does the impossible to give cars a distinctive look.
Rogowsky, 36 and a native of the German city of Dortmund, has turned his hobby
into a real career. In addition to his job as a sign expert, Rogowsky works as
an airbrush specialist. Whether it’s a skull and crossbones, a car owner’s
favorite animal or a tattoo design, the artist airbrushes around two cars a
month, giving them his own personal touch. He also applies his artistry to
motorcycles. “I have a passion for airbrushing. I really enjoy working with
paint,” Rogowsky says.
Recently, Rogowsky started using R-M brand’s CARIZZMA premium paint system
for his works of art. With CARIZZMA’s brilliant colors and metallic, chrome and
pearlescent effects, there’s no limit to the artist’s creativity. “I especially
like the fact that CARIZZMA is so environmentally friendly,” Rogowsky says. R-M
is the only paint manufacturer to produce a waterborne tuning paint that
complies with stringent environmental legislation.
Rogowsky received his first airbrush spraygun as a present at the tender age
of 16. As he puts it, “My father was a sign maker. I probably inherited my
talent for airbrushing from him.” Rogowsky started his professional career by
painting carnival rides. Two years ago, however, a friend asked him if he would
like to try his hand at designing his car. Today, he has more orders than he
can handle. “Car owners often approach me with just a vague notion of what
they’d like to have. Optimizing their ideas and turning them into reality is
always a fantastic experience,” Rogowsky says. When designing a car’s finish,
he first comes up with a draft of how it could look. Depending on the motif, he
either uses a stencil or works freehand. Once the final design has been decided
on, he uses an airbrush spraygun to spray the basecoat on the vehicle. It then
takes him between three and seven days to create a masterpiece. The last step
involves the application of a layer of clearcoat to seal the result. Rogowsky’s
speciality is the design “Real Flames,” for which he airbrushes a blazing fire
on the car body. Rogowsky’s Renault Twingo also features a one-of-a-kind
conflagration. And like all of Rogowsky’s projects, it’s a car like no
other.
