Restored Hispano Suizas turn heads at Rétromobile in Paris 03/05/2009

Glasurit’s Classic Car Colors help two Spanish gems relive their youth

Münster / Paris.Luxury autos and genuine classic cars that turned heads on the roads decades ago are now reliving their youth. At the 34th Rétromobile, France's largest classic car show in Paris, fans of yesteryear's vehicle technology had a field day.Among the stars of the show were two Hispano Suizas from the 1930s that had been lovingly restored with the help of the Classic Car Colors program by Glasurit, a BASF Coatings’ automotive refinish brand.

The two gems from Spain are privately owned. The Lecoq bodyshop, located in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Quen, invested over 1,000 hours of work in completely overhauling each of the two Hispano Suizas, paying meticulous attention to detail. For the refinishing job, Lecoq relied on Glasurit’s well-known color matching service. With Classic Car Colors, bodyshops can find the matching color for nearly any classic car undergoing refinishing.Glasurit has the world’s largest color database with data on colors, some of which are over 100 years old – an excellent basis for solving all kinds of paint problems.

1930s luxury regains its gloss thanks to Classic Car Colors

The Classic Car Colors program found the matching colors for the two classic cars. The J12 Hispano Suiza convertible regained its original black gloss from 1933 and was the star of the show at Lecoq’s "Art Déco Années 30" booth. With a beige leather interior and a 12-cylinder, 220 horsepower engine, it was the magnificent luxury car of the 1930s.

The elegant 1935 K6 Hispano Suiza appeared at the Rétromobile in its night blue body with red leather interior. With its six cylinders the roadster, rebuilt by Lecoq bodyshop, has a 140-horsepower engine, and in the 1930s, was the darling of the world's rich and powerful.

A decades-long partnership based on trust

The Lecoq bodyshop has already used Glasurit paints in its restoration of classic cars for decades.“Glasurit’s color matching, products and service are very high quality, and the results with the two Hispano Suizas were impressive," said Max Alunni, owner of the Lecoq bodyshop.
