Harald Pflanzl new head of BASF Coatings’ Automotive Refinish Europe business unit
Münster. On January 1, 2010, Harald Pflanzl became the head of BASF
Coatings' Automotive Refinish Europe business unit. Pflanzl succeeds Christoph
Hansen, who now heads the Dispersions for Adhesives and Constructions Europe
unit in Ludwigshafen.
Pflanzl was born in Kapfenberg, Austria, in 1966. He studied metallurgy at
the University of Leoben, Austria; and started his professional career as a
production assistant in the Australian copper industry. Afterwards, he worked
for an Austrian refractory producer as a sales engineer in South America. Later
on, Pflanzl was responsible for the development of a company for refractory
service activities in South Africa. He also earned a Master of Business
Administration (MBA) at the International Institute for Management Development
(IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland. This was followed by a short period as a sales
and marketing director for an Austrian welding robot manufacturer, responsible
for activities in Europe, North America and Asia. In October 2000, he was
appointed Managing Director of what is now BASF Performance Products in
Krieglach, Austria. From 2002 to the end of 2009, he was responsible for the
admixture business in Northern Europe. In this position, he was responsible for
around 30 countries with 13 production sites. The company’s customers included
ready-mix concrete and precast concrete companies as well as manufacturers of
concrete products and construction companies.
