Integrated Process
Modern automotive coatings have to perform a variety of functions: They
convey emotion, exuding dynamism, sportiness or exclusivity. At the same time,
they have to be tough – for the entire life of a car. Automotive coatings
gleam, and they resist rain and snow, heat and cold, and UV radiation. But this
protective function has long faded into the background, at least for end
consumers. Most car owners choose a particular color based primarily on the joy
it brings and its decorative appeal.
The goal for car manufacturers and paint experts involves developing the
entire application process to use resources even more efficiently in the
future. BASF Coatings’ Integrated Processes do just this.
"Integrated
Processes"
- Reduce the entire length of the OEM coating facility, the sequence of
process steps, and the residence and throughput times
- Reduce investment and operating expenses
- Save material
- Improve productivity and the balance between energy and ecology
- Allow integration into existing systems without sacrificing color
characteristics
To this end, BASF Coatings’ researchers have simply integrated the positive
characteristics of primer surfacers into other components of coatings.
Thanks to innovation, the entire primer application section or unit,
material consumption, and preparation and post-production work can be reduced
and the paint line shortened accordingly.
A success story that takes into account
the requirements of production engineering and design and at the same time
combines economic and ecological benefits.
